I am not really a poetry person. I mostly like to read history, and thrillers and horror novels. I never really appreciated poetry until a few years ago when the economy crashed. I went through some difficult times and out of nowhere, I started writing poems. It was something I had never done before or since. The anguish in my soul just came out in words. It helped me get through those dark times. That said, I usually read 3 or 4 books at a time. I am currently reading another book by this author, Midnight Guests and other weird stories. I am relishing each story and kind of taking my time with the book. Anyways, I noticed she had this book of poetry and I decided to try it. I am glad I did. Another reviewer compared her to Emily Dickinson which is high praise, but I do see the comparison. I have found most of the poems in this collection beautiful and uplifting, truly capturing human emotion. Some poems even have a spiritual beauty to them. I really enjoyed this book of poems. Many are worthy of reading, over and over. I am a Arizona native, born and bred. One of the things I really love about this author is that she also seems to have a love of Arizona, its a main theme in all her writing. As a man who loves the beauty of the desert, I so appreciate and understand the spirit that pens these words. That is just an extra bonus to this book. I highly recommend it.Product details

Author has perception and vision that is pure and clear as a bell. She invites us into her world where we can share in the revelation of common things with her. Well done.
There is nothing cliché about Amy Michelle Mosier’s book of poetry, Envious of the Clouds. This lovely compilation is distinctly fresh, blessedly uncomplicated and uniquely quirky. I was utterly drawn in to her stunningly simple, poignantly rich prose and, though I’d planned to read only a few poems a day from this book, I found myself gorging on the entire book in one sitting. I have no shame.
I enjoy poetry where I’m left feeling uplifted, my view of the world around me refreshed. Mosier’s poetry does that for me. I was gently swept along as topics such as nature, the stars, love and amaretto in one’s coffee (my favorite!) combined effortlessly into a collection that has enriched my perspective. This book left me feeling like I’d been gifted with something larger than the printed page, which is a triumph any poet aspires to. Well done, Ms. Mosier, and thank you!
The book contains about 60 pages of poetry (short for the price, but the quality makes up for it). Favorite themes include love and attraction, friendship, and the beauty of the night sky and of nature. The poems are mostly rhyming, and only occasionally metered; and the book is full of half-rhyme, which results in some very interesting effects. For instance, many of the poems require careful study to see if they are even rhyming at all!
The result, if you simply read through smoothly, is that the words sit in your consciousness like musical notes on a score, occasionally reinforcing each other, occasionally not, but all working together with a sort of mystical quality.
The poetry is heavily inspired by Emily Dickinson, as the author confesses on her website. But it's not derivative. Some authors give their favorites genuine love, and share parts of themselves with the authors they admire. The result is something that can stand on its own two feet while having the blood of the teacher flowing through its veins. Although there aren't many poems in this book whose subjects have never been chosen before, the depth of feeling and of honesty with which they're written means that no one, no matter how many poems they've read, will find the experience not worthwhile. Hearts are new every time they get written about.
This book is technically adept, and full of a wonderful kindness, patience, and wonder. I recommend it to anyone who can read a poem.
